DESCRIPTION

The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) publishes quarterly and annual recorded crime statistics, including summary information about unique alleged offenders, unique victims, recorded criminal incidents, recorded offences, alleged offender incidents, family incidents, and victim reports.

Other details: Data are available from July 2004. Prior to this, data are available on the Victoria Police website or from Victoria Police.

COLLECTION METHODOLOGY

At the beginning of each data cycle, the CSA receives data from the Victoria Police Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP) database.

SCOPE AND COVERAGE

Criminal offences reported to and recorded by Victoria Police on the LEAP database.

DEFINITION OF FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

DEFINITION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Sexual offences - Acts, or intent of acts, of a sexual nature against another person, which are non-consensual or where consent is proscribed (for example, the person is legally deemed incapable of giving consent because of youth or temporary/permanent incapacity). Includes rape, indecent assault, incest, sexual offences against children, other sexual offences.
